The PSFS took another uncharted leap with its broadcast antenna as television was still infantile. The 256 foot antenna was added after World War II in the late 1940s, for WCAU-TV. The height to the building's roof is 492 ft, so the antenna took the total height to 748', exactly 200' taller than William Penn atop City Hall. The PSFS was the second tallest building in Philadelphia from the time it was built until 1974, when 1818 Market was completed. Today, it remains a dramatic part of the skyline and one of Philly's most important architectural legacies.
