October 2005 . . . it seems like the perfect time to catch up with Point Breeze (even if the photos were taken in December 2004). Its most famous resident, Roc-a-fella rapper Beanie Sigel, is all over the news lately, himself a microcosm of the larger media perception of this neighborhood. (Be sure to check Steve Volk's Beanie Blog, the round-the-clock Weekly coverage of Beanie's drama.) Another, more positive reason to take a stroll through Point Breeze is to celebrate Mural Arts Month in Philadelphia. Some of the best ones in the city are found here, including one by the late pop artist Keith Haring. It's a great neighborhood . . . a little rough around the edges, no doubt, but community binds.
