One Man’s Trash: Week 31 Report

WEEK 31: Devil’s Pool work party

Crew of four plus a dozen helpers
Crew of four plus a dozen helpers

For a group of four people (me, Sarah, Seth, and Eric, who is vacating his post as FOW’s volunteer coorindator — best of luck, buddy), we sure made quick work of the cleanup. And when we were staging the bags to be moved out to Livezey Lane for removal, a group of summer camp kids from Ambler were coming through and gave us a hand doing so. Right on.

Map/additional photos to come.

NOTES AND OBSERVATIONS
– A group of four volunteers and FOW’s Eric Falk removed approximately 10 heavy duty garbage bags of trash, plus a perfectly usable Coleman cooler, a target shopping basket, and a volleyball.
– Bottle caps are a royal pain in the ass, especially when they are in quantity. One rain and they’re caked in to the ground. So small and tedious to clean up.

One Man’s Trash: Week 29 Report

WEEK 29: Allens Lane & Lincoln Drive to Carpenter’s Woods

shart29_haul0

Y’know, because Devil’s Pool is such a problem spot in the summer, I often bypass it on my trash hikes because there’s way too much for one person to haul out at once. Being the onset of the dog days of August, of course the Pool is at its peak of popularity and population, and the amount of litter at this incredible natural place is frustrating and infuriating. Maddening, you might say. And still, deep in the woods away from computers, the internet troll resides. (See photo at right, latest t-shirt added to collection.)

Bro, I was mad, then I laughed.

NOTES AND OBSERVATIONS
– First hike with new Grip & Grab trash grabber — IT RULES. Thanks, PPR!
– This was a particularly nasty week, what with used diapers tossed in the woods and a used condom. While I’ve found condom wrappers, hard to believe it took me eight months to find the first actual condom. (And of course it was near Devil’s Pool.)
